It is known as the "city of tiles" thanks to its more than 800 facades decorated with this material, a symbol in Portugal. Ovar is a quiet town that turns into a carnival party and where you can reach endless beaches like Furadouro, Esmoriz and Torre do Lameiro and see the Ria de Aveiro.

Among its streets we will feel enchanted by the wonderful aroma of its biscuit ovens while the seagulls announce that the Atlantic is near. The city also has beautiful museums in Ovar that you must visit. So we share some of the museums in Ovar to visit.

Julio Dinis Museum
Writer and doctor, Júlio Dinis marked a turning point in Portuguese literature by standing at the transition between romanticism and realism. He suffered from tuberculosis, so he had to leave his hometown to move to rural areas. He lived on the island of Madeira, but also in Ovar, where he found a source of inspiration. The house in which he lived, a modest one-story house, is now the Júlio Dinis Museum.

Ovar Museum
Ovar is a city rich in museums and strongly committed to culture. In addition to the museum dedicated to Júlio Dinis, we highlight the Ovar Museum, which has presented exhibitions for more than sixty years. It also has a permanent collection of art and ethnography objects, which is enlarged year after year thanks to public and private donations.

The story of Ovar was told in this museum. The exhibition includes ancient traditional clothing and delicate embroidery, objects related to ancient customs and crafts, examples of architecture and interiors of houses.

House Museum of the Third Order of San Francisco
Very interesting museum with images used in the procession of Our Lady of the Conception (19th and 18th centuries), worship instruments, ornaments, paintings, porcelain and curiosities, which reflect the religious life of the third order of Saint Francis.

House-Museum of Sacred Art of the Secular Franciscan Order
It brings together a diversified set of pieces of Sacred Art, of high value, dating from the fifteenth and twentieth centuries, from the parishes of San Pedro, San Juan and San Cristóbal and from the religious institutions of Ovar, highlighting the contribution of the third Order of Saint Francis of Assisi.
